Staff
The staff at ARL:UT currently consists of
· about 300 scientists and engineers,
· 100–150 students, and
· a support staff of about 215.

More than 50% of the research staff hold advanced degrees, and 52 staff members, or 19%, hold PhD degrees, primarily in physics and engineering.

Another interesting demographic for ARL’s research staff is its age distribution. A snapshot of the research staff taken in February 2002 is shown in the histogram at the right. As a result of its long- term emphasis on involving students in research, and its general philosophy of hiring staff early in their careers, ARL’s research staff has maintained a median age of about 40. The distribution about the median is quite symmetric, which reflects a healthy balance of experience and new perspectives.
