The Center for Content Understanding (CCU) conducts research and develops guidance on the application of artificial intelligence and data science to real-world problems in understanding content in various forms, including text, images, audio, time series, and tabular data. The work at CCU ranges from deployed systems to state-of-the-art basic research, as well as tests and evaluations for the federal government.

CCU was formed in 2012 as part of the Applied Research Laboratories, The University of Texas at Austin (ARL:UT). CCU functions within ARL:UT’s charter as a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC).
