Postdoc position at SGL
Fellowship Description
The Space and Geophysics Laboratory (SGL) of the Applied Research Laboratories, The University of Texas at Austin (ARL:UT) wishes to invite applications for one or more postdoctoral fellowship positions.
SGL has an active research and development program, with research efforts in:
- Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers and processing, including a unique GNSS high rate software defined receiver
- Geodetic instrumentation and processing, including a Zenith Camera for astronomic positioning
- Radio astronomy, including Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) processing applied to systems of non-identical antennas
- Ionospheric physics research, including ionospheric radio wave propagation, data assimilation, and HF geolocation
- Precise point and differential positioning algorithm development, including tools that are used to realize the WGS 84 terrestrial reference frame
SGL invites applications from individuals that have completed their PhD within the last three years in engineering, physics, math, or other related applied sciences.
Individuals with research experience in the above areas as well as analysis of experimental data, signal processing, and/or hardware development are preferred, but all candidates are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with modern software development techniques and laboratory skills are desirable but not essential.
The candidate will work with other personnel to provide research, technical analyses, and recommendations for existing sponsored efforts, as well as pursue, at about half-time, an independent research program aimed at publication. The topic area will be coordinated between the successful candidate and ARL:UT. The ideal candidate will also submit proposals as the Principle Investigator and pursue outside funding opportunities.
ARL:UT also collaborates with the UT Center for Space Research and other UT research teams. The ideal candidate will be expected to join and independently pursue these collaborations. A willingness to work with and mentor undergraduate researchers is also desirable.
The appointment is contingent upon the completion of the requirements for a PhD and will be for an initial period of one year with the possibility of renewal for up to three years. Outstanding recipients may be considered for staff positions at the completion of their appointment. U.S. citizenship is required. Subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
